Internet Systems Consortium, Inc., makers of the popular BIND DNS server and INN Usenet server, has announced the End of Life for BIND 8 . I received an email from ISC on this topic earlier in the month, but I wasn't aware that the EOL was right around the corner. Perhaps the suddenness of this is in response to the security advisory released yesterday?

Honestly though, this is OK. BIND 9 is superior to BIND 8 and has been out for 8 years. If you haven't already migrated to BIND 9, it's time to do so. If you need some help, give me a ring — I'm available at reasonable rates.

In somewhat lighter news, Sue Graves of ISC has sent an update reminding everyone that the correct date for the EOL is 2007, not 2008. Apparently I'm not the only one that thought this was a bit sudden.
