About Slaptijack

Scott Hebert

Slaptijack is where I write about the engineering systems that make good teams more effective: AI-enabled developer productivity, build and CI systems, developer tooling, and technical leadership.

I am a software engineering leader whose career began in the early 1990s. I have worked at large technology companies, including Meta and Pinterest, and I care most about the practical intersection of technical depth, engineering culture, and organizational effectiveness. The recurring question behind this site is simple: how do you help engineers and the systems around them move faster without making quality, security, or judgment optional?

What I Focus On

  • AI Engineering — using coding agents and AI-assisted workflows with review discipline, governance, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Build Systems & CI/CD — making local verification and continuous integration predictable, understandable, and worth trusting.
  • Developer productivity — treating developer experience, platform investment, feedback loops, measurement, and AI adoption as an engineering system rather than a collection of individual hacks.
  • Engineering leadership — helping senior engineers, Staff Engineers, and engineering managers build scope, influence, and durable technical strategy.

Public Work

I publish practical engineering notes here and keep public projects on GitHub. One current project is tmxr, an opinionated tmux workspace launcher built around a repeatable development environment rather than a pile of terminal windows.
